Our History
We are located in a "food desert" in urban Raleigh. “There is little or no access to large grocery stores that offer fresh and affordable foods needed to maintain a healthy diet.” We had a garden vision for an unused courtyard at our school. In 2011-2012, through a series of community partnerships with NCSU, Sixth Sun, and a team of parents/teachers and students we now have the beginnings of our gardens taking root. We have constructed and are using 7 raised edible beds, 3 pollinator beds, a mason bee habitat, 4 vermi-composting bins, 5 rain barrels, an outdoor composting area, work stations, a clay totem art installation, garden mosaic, O'Keeffe flowers, and "Only One You" rockfish . Our plans include 10 raised vegetable/edible beds, a rain garden, and an outdoor stage.
